Increasing Media Coverage of the Palestinian Justice Sector
Ma’an Network: New Project
With generous funds from the Palestinian Justice Enhancement Program (PJEP) and USAID, Ma’an Network has begun producing an engaging court room television series that will provide viewers with quality information about the justice system in the West Bank. A total of 13 episodes, each one hour in duration, will be produced throughout the life of the project. The program will be based in a court room and will feature practicing judges and lawyers with significant legal experience playing the role of legal professionals. Actors will be used to play other roles such as the applicants, the accused as well as witnesses. The 13 legal cases featured throughout the program highlight topics such as drug abuse, violence against women, women’s inheritance rights, rape, bribery, corruption, honor killings, land disputes, theft and fraud.
Subsequent to the broadcast of each episode, an article summarizing the legal issues highlighted throughout the program will be published on the Ma’an News Agency website. Readers will be encouraged to respond to the articles by submitting their comments online, inspiring lively public debate on key legal issues.
