TV Soap Opera: Shu Fi Ma Fi? (“What’s Up?”)

Period: April 2006 - October 2006 

Objective:

• Addressing issues of social and political importance for the Palestinian community.

Shu Fi Ma Fi?  was a comedy drama series addressing pressing issues in Palestine. In total, 120 Palestinian professionals participated in the series, including directors, producers, photographers, make-up artists, graphic designers, and actors.

The series approached problems within the Palestinian community with a comedic twist. It followed the lives of two Palestinian students living in a university residence, reflecting on a range of social issues including inter-religious marriages, drug and alcohol abuse, theft, spying, the internet, poverty and domestic violence. The series also raised important political topics such as conflict resolution, prospects for dialogue and negotiations, and the electoral process.

Results:

• Twenty 40-minute episodes were broadcast on Ma'an Network TV stations and the Palestinian satellite channel during Ramadan 2006.

• The project provided production experience for 120 Palestinian media personnel.
