2008
Objectives:
-
Improving Palestinian journalists?
ability to operate safely in conflict situations

safety trainers for their peers
The first phase of the training course
was designed to improve Palestinian journalists’ ability to analyze

Israeli military and Palestinian groups, this course covered
strategies for pre-deployment planning, cover from fire,
interpersonal negotiations, situations of abduction and civil
unrest, as well as emergency first aid (facilitated by security
company TOR International).
During the second
‘training of trainers’ phase, six of the journalists from phase one
received further instruction in designing safety training lessons
and conducting training exercises for their colleagues.
Results:
-
33 participants
received basic safety training on reporting in conflict zones.
-
Six
participants received additional training to qualify as basic
safety trainers.
-
24 medical
kits, bullet-proof vests and helmets were distributed to
participating media outlets.
