Ma'an Network’s mission is to empower Palestinians by providing independent news and information, facilitating public discussions and interaction between Palestinian citizens and decision-makers, and bringing Palestinian voices to global audiences. As Palestinians work to establish an independent state, we believe that independent media have a critical role to play in strengthening Palestinian governance and society.

Independent media have a particular responsibility to promote citizen participation, governmental transparency, democratic debate, inter-communal understanding and respect for human rights. Ma'an Network is working hard to advance these values through its online reporting, media productions, and training programs. As an independent Palestinian media organization, Ma'an seeks to lead the way in developing Palestinian media into a force for positive social change, accountability, and democracy in Palestine. To this end we continue to develop our capacities in investigative reporting and participatory journalism, and to share our experiences with other media organizations.

As part of our commitment to continually improving our services and maximizing our social impact, Ma'an established a research unit to survey public attitudes towards media and Palestinian governance. The feedback collected by our researchers is used to evaluate and refine our programming to better meet the needs of our most important stakeholders – the Palestinian public – and to help create a culture of demand for good governance in Palestine. Researchers also follow up on stories reported by our local correspondents and problems highlighted by citizens, enabling us to monitor the impact of our coverage and report back to the public on any steps taken by officials to address their concerns.   

In an environment where freedom of speech is sometimes threatened, Ma'an Network promotes freedom of thought and expression, offering a platform for diverse views and political opinions. We have never hesitated to criticize undemocratic developments in Palestine, regardless of the party responsible, and our reporters continue to provide balanced, comprehensive news coverage, despite significant external pressures in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Through our reporting and media production, we actively defend freedom of the press and strengthen media pluralism in Palestine, and also serve as a model of journalistic independence in a landscape dominated by party-affiliated media. Ma'an Network correspondents, editors, and producers are committed to uncovering the truth and reporting with integrity. Through their daily work, they are contributing towards building democracy and strengthening the rule of law in Palestine.
